Vietnam’s UAV Over The South China Sea

AV.UAV.S1 and AV.UAV.S2 UAVs developed by Vietnam’s Institute of Space Technology have conducted test flights over the South China Sea to tests their respective autonomous flight control system as well as their camera payload on May 25 and May 26 at the Van Ninh beach, some 100 km from the city of Nha Trang.

Two UAVs flew on May 25 to conduct the respective tests on their on-board systems and payload during day and night-time while six more flew on May 26 to conduct aerial based oceanographic studies.

Vietnam are among several ASEAN region countries which had conducted research and development of indigenous UAV for both civilian and military use. Other countries in the region that has similar programs include Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
