The Vietnam's submarine naming and launching ceremony held in Russia

Jan 7, 2012- Xinhua today reports that the Vietnam People's Navy Kilo 636M submarine was named TP.HỒ CHÍ MINH ("Ho Chi Minh City") with No. HQ183.


Admiralty factory in St. Petersburg held the naming and launching ceremony for Vietnamese second kilo submarine on December 28, 2012


This is the second Kilo 636M, in a series of six Kilo class submarines of Vietnam People's Navy, was launched.


The "Ho Chi Minh City" submarine began to build in the early of November 2010, was launched on December 28, 2012 and is expected to deliver to Vietnam in 2015


Kilo class submarine takes the water stretching from 3000 to 3950 tons (maximum load), operating at an average depth of 240 m and a maximum depth of 300 m. The submarine equipped six 533 mm torpedo tubes, Club-S anti-ship missile systems, 24 other torpedo warheads, and 9K34 Strela-3 or 8 9K38 Igla air defense missles.


A Kalibr missile warhead of Club-s system had been launched from the Russian Dagastan warship.
