Taiwan conducts maritime drill in south China sea

Several Taiwan naval vessels, coast guard ships and fighter jets have conducted a fishery protection drill in waters oFf southern Taiwan. It's the first time Taiwan vessels have crossed the Philippine-Taiwan "temporary enforcement line", established by the island’s authorities at 20 degrees north latitude.

Two Mirage 2000 jets, an E-2K Hawkeye early-warning plane and a Kidd-class destroyer also took part in the exercises. The training covered communication, air defense, damage control and rescue measures.

The drill comes after a Taiwan fisherman was fatally shot by the Philippine coast guard last week.
