A Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy fleet is heading for more training in the South
China Sea, after conducting patrols and exercises in the West Pacific.
The East China Sea fleet entered on Monday morning the Bashi Channel, an international waterway linking the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. During its earlier 7-day training session, the fleet conducted reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance operations, offensive and defensive combat and rescue for battle wounds. It was designed to test the fleet’s capabilities of organization and command, and mobile warfare.
US aircraft carrier joins joint drill with S.Korea
South Korea and the United States have begun 2 days of joint naval exercises off the southeastern coast of the Korean Peninsula.
The drills involve the USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, and a guided missile cruiser.
The US fleet arrived at the southern port of Busan on Saturday. The Nimitz carries 64 fighter jets, mainly FA-18s.
US military officials said the 2 naval fleets will practice maneuvers and rescue operations.
North Korea's military recently removed missile launchers from the coastal area facing the Japan Sea.
But South Korea's Defense Ministry remains on alert against a ballistic missile launch.
Observers say the drill is intended to keep North Korea's provocations in check.
North Korea says the exercises are a military provocation intended to trigger war.
